What IRD Offers Colleges and Universities in NM

Internships

IRD promotes, funds or helps develop, in collaboration with university and college partners, internships for Indigenous students affiliated with tribal nations in New Mexico. Internships complement student’s training in becoming agriculturalists, engineers, natural resource or energy scientists, and business people prepared to contribute to the effective development and management of tribal resources.

College Prep and Career Exploration Camps

IRD offers funding to its higher education partners to cover all or part of the participation cost of Indigenous high school students in college prep and career exploration camps. These camps are offered by universities and colleges in NM to support students in their career and college exploration in becoming agriculturalists, engineers, natural resource or energy scientists, or business people prepared to contribute to the effective development and management of tribal resources.

Research Experiences

IRD offers funding support, via its partners, to Indigenous high school or college students interested in participating in research experiences that will reinforce and expand their knowledge and understanding of agriculture, engineering, natural resources or business so they are more prepared to contribute to the effective development and management of tribal resources.

How Are These Opportunities Possible?

By establishing partnerships between IRD and NM universities and colleges who serve NM Indigenous students in the fields of agriculture, engineering, business, consumer science or natural resources. Via sub-contracts, IRD and the partnering institution will enter into agreements describing the terms of the relationship, the kind of support given for a specific type (s) of project (s), the amount of the support, length of the agreement, and the reports that will be delivered once or twice over the course of the agreement.
