What IRD offers for NM High School Students

Internships IRD offers, via its partners, funding support for Indigenous students, affiliated with tribal nations in NM, interested in internships or on-the-job experiences to boost their career exploration in becoming agriculturalists, engineers, natural resource or energy scientists, or business people prepared to contribute to the effective development and management of NM tribal resources.

College prep and career exploration IRD offers high school students and their families with informational resources, camps, and research experiences to guide their exploration of higher education opportunities in New Mexico. IRD also partially funds career exploration camps offered by NM universities and colleges with which it partners. On the IRD web site, students and their families find resources that help them navigate where to begin when interested in pursuing secondary education in New Mexico. The IRD web site includes a basic introduction to college, a list of universities and colleges in New Mexico in the areas of agriculture, natural resources, engineering, energy, and business.

Research experiences IRD offers to fund, via its partners, research experiences at universities and colleges in New Mexico that will support Indigenous high school students in exploring careers in agriculture, engineering, natural resources, engineering, or business so they can contribute to the effective development and management of tribal resources.

Sources of Financial Aid IRD puts together a booklet called Sources of Financial Aid for Native American Students. It includes college, state, federal, tribal & American Indian resources, and websites with scholarship opportunities.

How are there opportunities possible? With the support of the New Mexico Legislature and the collaboration of universities and colleges, tribal nations, and native businesses in New Mexico.
